Brooklyn Bar Wedding | Jill + Eddie

Hi! My name is Jill Hernandez. I’m a massage therapist and freelance artist. Born & raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, I spent most of my 20’s working & going to school in several places including Seattle, Colorado, and California. After satisfying my wanderlust, I moved to Brooklyn & fell in love with this beautiful energetic city.

I met my husband Eddie the first year I moved here, our friendship evolved to dating which led (many years later) to marriage. Eddie is a proud member of Local 731 Union building the city we call home. We love adventure, travel, good food, dancing. & cuddling up with our bull terrier, Pega.

What was most important aspect to you about the wedding day?

The most important aspect of our wedding day was the people! Having so many of our friends and family all in one place dancing & celebrating was unforgettable.

How did you go about choosing the bars you got married in?

We were running out of good options in our hunt, we didn’t want a formal church & didn’t want a stale catering hall. We figured we met in a bar...why not get married in one!

I give Eddie all the credit for thinking of Baron’s as an option. We had been there for brunch, and he remembered the back room with back lit windows and church pews as seating. We visited again & they were so welcome to the idea. They saw our vision & made it happen perfectly. We made it our funky little chapel.

One moment that sticks out to you?

It may sound cheesy but I loved sharing our personal vows with each other in front of our guests. Something about that moment made it very real & so personal.

Do you have a favorite photo from the day?

I have sooooo many favorite photos... I love the contrast of this photo - all the black & white with pops of red. I love that we are being goofy, & it shows the fun we have as a couple - just letting loose. Weddings don’t have to be serious & uptight. We wanted a party & that’s what we got!

Any advice for someone about to get married?

Don’t sweat the small stuff! Breathe and be present because it flies by so fast. My maid of honor was a genius by gifting the two of us a private yoga session the morning of the wedding at the hotel. It set the tone for the day in a really special way.
